Wolframalpha – The new computational Knowledge engine

Wolframalpha – is the best computational knowledge engine i had ever come across. Its much different from Google, yahoo etc. Though Google can do some basic computations like calculation, currency conversion etc. its computational power for web’s data in a structured manner is not a match with the computational power of wolframalpha.

Earlier i had a chance to use a knowledge search engine trueknowledge, its computational power is not very promising and its in beta stage. Wolframalpha is already good in organizing the content from the web. Suppose if you provide and two similar items it shows the comparison between them. Boy its got lots and lots of computational power it can do much more than you could thing of . And the data is organized in a structured manner that you can use it directly for your work. Here are the few example search queries and a video demonstration which shows the ability of the Wolframalpha in detail. Seriously, i am impressed with the computational power of wolframalpha. But sometime it shows like computation timed out this will be solved soon.

I have searched for abs ( a plastic material ) to find its density for some engineering calculation. And immediately it shows all the properties of abs (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene). Also you can get the search data in a pdf format if you preferred so.That’s very convenient way of getting the data.

Wolframalpha also promise of a professional version in which you have the option of getting your data in various format like spreadsheets, xml, 3d modeling etc.

There is no need to switch your default search engine assuming Google atleast in this case. We can use Google and wolframalpha side by side in Firefox by using an addon. Below is the screenshot in which Google and wolframalpha working together.

There is also a toolbar and various tools available for download for windows, mac etc. You can download those files from the download page.

Overall i am greatly impressed with Wolframalpha,the new computational knowledge engine. And use Wolframalpha to get structured data from web and get things done. Please comment back if you had anything in mind.
